Replacing an AeroGarden: a supplies and parts checklist

Replacing an AeroGarden starts with a list of what still works. Keep the model number, seed packets and parts together until you know what the replacement requires. A packet of seeds may still be useful even when its old basket, sponge or plant food has no documented use in the new garden.

If the garden itself works, check the missing supply or failed feature before buying another appliance. ScottsMiracle-Gro’s AeroGarden storefront was operating when checked on October 11, 2026. That does not promise a replacement part for every old model. Its app guidance also says affected older gardens can continue working without app support, so a lost phone connection alone does not establish that the hardware needs replacing. Sort supplies before choosing a replacement

Separate the seed from the equipment that holds, waters and feeds it. Both AeroGarden and Click & Grow describe compatibility within their own pod systems. Neither statement approves moving a complete AeroGarden pod into a Click & Grow garden. Gardyn’s seedless yCube is another option for supplying your own seeds, but it remains a Gardyn growing insert. What you already ownWhat to checkSensible budget treatment before confirmation
Loose seeds in a labeled packetCrop and variety, storage history, mature size, destination’s own-seed instructionsKeep the packet; still price the growing medium and feeding supplies
Unused AeroGarden seed podsExact product label, storage date and documented destination fitReserve for a supported AeroGarden; give them no cross-brand purchase credit
Used baskets, cups and domesExact part, condition, cleaning instructions and approved destinationKeep separately; do not assume similar-looking cups are interchangeable
Sponges or other growing mediaDimensions, water contact and whether the medium already contains nutrientsUse the destination’s specified insert until a supported alternative is established
Liquid plant foodExact formulation, label directions and destination feeding methodDo not carry the old dose into a different tank or a pre-fed pod system
Lamp, pump, power supply or cableManufacturer-approved part number and the exact destination modelDo not budget an electrical substitution on connector appearance

This is a purchase checklist, not a fit-test result. Record “unverified” when the manufacturer does not supply the missing match. That avoids both an unsafe substitution and throwing away a part that may still belong with the old unit.

Check repair and account options first

A timed pump can be idle without being broken. AeroGarden’s FAQ gives different pump-test controls for Harvest, Harvest Elite, Bounty and Farm. For the Harvest, it describes holding the Leaf button to run a one-minute pump test; Harvest Elite has a Test Pump menu option, and Bounty or Farm use their pump settings. Match the exact model before following the procedure. A successful test would answer a narrow pump question, not certify the whole appliance. AeroGarden troubleshooting

Keep electrical troubleshooting within the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not improvise a cable, power supply or cross-brand pump because it plugs into the socket. For damaged electrical parts or an uncertain model, ask the manufacturer which replacement is approved before operating it.

For a secondhand AeroGarden, account pairing is a separate check. The official app guidance says a garden must first be unpaired from the previous account; previously owned grow lights may need support assistance. It also distinguishes supported models from older gardens that lost app support because of security firmware. Check the actual device before paying for remote controls you may not be able to use. Your own seeds still need a growing insert

Click & Grow’s Grow Anything three-pack displayed $14.95 in the US listing checked on October 10, 2026. It is seedless but contains nutrients; the seller describes a four-to-six-month nutrient supply. That is a claim about the insert, not a guarantee that every crop will remain productive for that period. Its storage guidance says to keep pods dark, dry and cool for up to a year. Grow Anything details

Gardyn’s seedless yCube displayed $4.99 on October 11. It uses rockwool and lets you add your own seeds. Do not infer from the shared own-seed feature that the two inserts use the same feeding routine or will fit the same holder. Seedless yCube details

AeroGarden also permits your own seeds through its Grow Anything kit, but excludes those user-supplied seeds from its germination guarantee. Its FAQ says packaged AeroGarden seed kits expire one year after their germination-test date. Check the date on stored supplies rather than treating a cupboard full of old pods as guaranteed future crops. Seed and storage guidance

For a concrete refill example, suppose you keep nine suitable loose seeds and want nine new Click & Grow Grow Anything inserts. Three packs at $14.95 cost $44.85 before shipping and tax. Keeping the seeds does not remove that insert purchase. This example assumes you need all nine inserts now; it is not an annual replacement schedule or a germination forecast.

The cheaper route may be keeping a functional AeroGarden with its documented supplies. Ordinary pots are also worth considering if there is a suitable growing position. Neither option requires buying a different appliance simply to use the seeds already in the drawer.

Check the new location as well as the old supplies

A replacement with more planting positions may take substantially more counter width. The standard Click & Grow Smart Garden 3 has three positions and a base about 11.8 by 4.7 inches. The standard Smart Garden 9 has nine positions and a base about 23.8 by 7.2 inches. Those are rounded conversions of the manufacturer’s 300 by 120 mm and 604 by 184 mm specifications. They do not include space for leaves, refilling or removing parts. SG3 specifications · SG9 specifications

Replacement exampleListed US hardware price, October 11Included first plantingPlacement check
Standard Smart Garden 3$124.95Three basil podsAbout 11.8 × 4.7-inch base; overall listed height varies from about 8.3 to 18.5 inches with extensions
Standard Smart Garden 9$249.95Three basil, three green lettuce and three mini tomato podsAbout 23.8 × 7.2-inch base; verify lamp and tending clearance under the cupboard

Prices and packages come from the linked SG3 and SG9 listings. Appliance height is not the clear growing height above the pod.

The standard Smart Garden timer runs 16 hours on and eight hours off. Plan where that light will fall in the evening before moving a garden into a bedroom. Downloading a plant-care app does not establish that a standard lamp has remote controls; verify the precise model if that is why you are replacing the AeroGarden. Timer instructions

Do not buy a second starter set by accident. The $249.95 Smart Garden 9 includes its first nine mixed pods. If you want to use those first and later buy nine Grow Anything inserts, the two purchases total $294.80 before shipping and tax. If you want your own seeds on day one, the included mixed pods do not become a cash discount: you still pay for the seedless inserts you choose. No resale value, electricity, later refills or crop savings are included in that subtotal.

Change the care routine when you change systems

An AeroGarden feeding reminder is not a recipe for a Click & Grow tank. AeroGarden’s FAQ tells owners to follow the liquid-food bottle’s instructions and recommends a rinse and refill every four to six weeks. Click & Grow’s own-seed insert already contains nutrients. Use the instructions for the destination and its exact insert rather than transferring the old dose. AeroGarden care · Grow Anything medium

Reusable plastic parts need their own cleaning rules. Click & Grow’s guide allows fully detached SG3/SG9 tanks, tank lids and cups in a dishwasher only within its stated 120°F limit. It excludes lamps, germination domes, U-shaped lids and wicks. Hand washing the permitted removable parts avoids guessing whether a dishwasher program meets that temperature limit. This guidance is for those Click & Grow parts; it does not approve the same treatment for AeroGarden components. Cleaning instructions

A healthy plant already growing in an AeroGarden presents a different problem from a packet of seeds. Do not pull it out merely to see whether its root mass fits a new holder. Get crop-specific transplant instructions and confirm the destination accepts that growing medium. The checklist here does not establish a safe live-plant transfer.

Write down the saving before counting it

Use this small worksheet for each item you hope to keep:

Item and exact part numberOld modelProposed destinationManufacturer instruction or written confirmationRequired purchase it replacesVerified avoided cost
Fill in one item per rowRecord model and revisionRecord exact modelKeep URL, document revision or support replyName the separate item; note if already includedLeave blank until both fit and the avoided purchase are established

Start the budget with the destination hardware, required supplies, delivery and tax. Subtract an avoided purchase only when the retained item is approved for the destination and the new package would otherwise make you buy it separately. Keep the original price paid for old equipment out of this calculation; it is not a new saving.

If compatibility remains unverified, keep that line at zero purchase-offset credit and compare the full replacement bill with repairing or continuing to use the original garden. That gives you a defensible spending decision without pretending a basket has passed a fit test.
